Helping Disadvantaged Children
About Inner City Outings
Inner City Outings (ICO) has been introducing disadvantaged children to the wilderness for years. Can you imagine the number of children who have never laid eyes on a deer or even a cow?
ICO's mission is to "promote personal development by linking cultures, fostering respect of self and others and providing leadership skills to promote appreciation and protection of our local and global environments through a process of spiritual growth and sharing." The ICO program meets this mission by providing safe and enjoyable outdoor experiences for persons who might not otherwise have them.

Liz Wheelan Recognized with Sierra Club National Award
The Dallas Group’s very own Liz Wheelan was recognized on September 21st at the 2013 Sierra Club “Modern-Day Muirs” Awards ceremony in San Francisco. Each year, the national club honors those who have exemplified the courage and dedication of the Sierra Club’s founder John Muir. Liz was nominated for and selected to receive the “Madelyn Pyeatt Award” which “honors Sierra Club members who have made outstanding contributions through working with youth.” The award comes with a monetary stipend to further the work of the recipient.
For several years, Liz has been a leader in the Dallas Group’s Inner City Outings (ICO) program, and has made significant contributions to the lives of many young people by introducing them to the outdoors.
