Tell Your Legislators You Support Conservation, Week of April 17

Dallas Sierra Club Logo

By Tuesday:

Write or call your state senator to support SB 1046 (Estes) without Nichols' amendment and to reject SB225 and SB226. SB1046 extends the successful Texas Emissions Reduction Program that assists low income car owners with repairs to enable cars to pass state emissions inspection. Nichols amendment would seize all money collected by inspections and put it into general highway funds.
SB225 and SB226 (Taylor) would make it easier for a water district to build a surface reservoir (an expensive and destructive option), and make it more difficult for the towns, homeowners and businesses who would be flooded to object to such a plan.
Here is a link that will help you write to your senator. Be sure to mention both the above issues. https://actionnetwork.org/letters/support-continuation-of-successful-texas-clean-air-program

By Wednesday:

Write or call House Natural Resources Committee to support HB2240 (Lucio). This bill requires that before a water utility asks the state for financial assistance to increase its water supply, it must place time-of-day limitations on outdoor watering by its customers. In other words, do not ask the state to subsidize wasting water. Here is a link that will help you write to the committee members: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/reduce-wasteful-outdoor-watering-by-supporting-hb-2240

Write or call the Intergovernmental Relations Committee to reject SB 636 (Huffines). This attempts to block cities from changing their building codes by requiring unnecessary and redundant paperwork. Cities already coordinate their building codes with other cities in their region and take advice from Texas A&M on any changes.
