»Backpack in the Weminuche Wilderness, SW ColoradoBackpack in the Weminuche Wilderness, SW ColoradoA permit request for the Dallas Group to hike and camp in this largest Wilderness Area in Colorado was submitted Jan. 1. If granted by the Forest Service, we'll depart on a chartered sleeper bus on the evening of Aug. 30 and return by 6 a.m on Sept. 4. The Weminuche straddles the Continental Divide. Trail altitudes would range from 9,300' to 12,500'. Permit moratoriums and fires have precluded our visits to this beautiful area since 2012, but we'll cross our fingers for good news in the spring about a permit to make this our destination for the 2018 Labor Day weekend.
